The Cognitive Shift · Scout

Every market has a cell nobody fills.
We find yours.

Scout sends a fleet of research agents ahead of your next move: it maps every company in your market, codes what each one actually ships, finds the openings that should exist but don't, and simulates the market's real buyers choosing before you build, enter, or back anything. Evidence you can audit, ending in a decision, not a deck.

See it work

capabilities × companies, coded from evidence.
◯ the structural zero: the combination no one in the market offers.

+10 years in insights

A decade delivering market and customer insight the manual way. The method came before the machines.

Startups found this way

Ventures we run were scouted with this engine, AskRally among them.

Dozens of category leaders

We've worked with dozens of companies that lead their categories today: Paperlike and Maze among them, plus several exits under NDA. None of them started out that way.

Who it's for

Founders

Choosing the next thing to build, or pressure-testing the thing you're already convinced about, before it eats a year.

Strategy & product teams

Entering a category and tired of paying six figures for a deck of secondary research nobody can verify.

Studios & investors

A thesis-testing instrument: run the market before the term sheet, and see the whitespace your founders claim.

What a run produces

The market graph builder

Agents sweep the entire category and assemble a living map: every company, every competitive relationship, every claim tied to a source. You see the whole territory at once, not a top-10 listicle.

NODE RECORD

anonymised. Every node on the graph carries this structured, sourced record.

The whitespace finder

Every company is coded on every capability, then the engine hunts the negative space: combinations that are each common but never occur together. The empty quadrant is your opening, and we test whether it's an opportunity or a graveyard.

capability A × capability B: the empty quadrant, live

The buyer simulator

Before anything gets built, a synthetic panel of your buyer type trades the openings off against the status quo: MaxDiff and anchored choice, objections voiced before preferences. It ranks what wins. Honestly labelled: it ranks, it doesn't price.

simulated share of choice · whiskers = spread across framings · greys = "change nothing"

Method

One engine, aimed at your question

Runs are assembled per engagement from the same auditable passes. These are the three we get asked for most. Pick a step to watch how the fleet carries it out.

Why it's different

Cheaper than your own tokens. Older than the hype. Guaranteed against slop.

Subsidised compute

We run on subsidised capacity plans: a full market run costs less through us than the raw token bill would on your own API plans, before you've hired anyone to drive it.

The method predates the machines

This system wasn't prompted into existence last month. It's ten years of delivering insight work manually, rebuilt AI-native. The agents inherit the craft, not just the task.

Eval-driven. Zero slop.

Every pipeline is developed against evaluation suites: reliability scores, statistical controls, adversarial review, before it touches your market. If you find slop in a deliverable, flag it: we audit it free of charge.

Live case

We ran the whole engine on a real market. Then 48 synthetic buyers refused every product it proposed.

113 companies read by two blind coders against 103 frozen definitions, seven bets written down before any sourcing and scored mechanically (five falsified), a theory audited by eight adversarial reviewers, then a simulated buying panel of 48 across 24 households. The panel refused all three concepts and its own skeptics refuted them, so that is what the report says. The deliverable below is the actual interactive evidence explorer from that run. Click any cell for the quote and source behind it.

Start

Tell us your market. We'll tell you where the empty cell is.

It starts with a 30-minute briefing call: you bring the decision you need to make, we scope the insights that would settle it, and agree the run and the budget. Then a swarm operator pilots Scout across your market and delivers the evidence, the simulation, and the brief.
